Welcome

Well, I'm not sure what was more exciting, the final minor round games of footy and netty, or the running of the 2010 Lochiel Gift. Ran at the prime time of 10pm, 10’s of people turned out in the cold foggy conditions to see the 2009 reigning champion Joshua “Slow Mo” Mahoney kitted up in his racing skins and goggles to defend his crown against Andy “The Whitwarta Whippet” Wilson, and John “The Lightning Streaker” Nicholls. After an early lead the Lightning Streaker was reined in by the Whitwatra Whippet and Slow Mo, and by centre half back, all that was seperating them was the Lightening Streaker’s P…….erseverance. Slow Mo soon found another gear (2nd Gear) to pull out in front by a head at centre half forward, and the decision to shave off his fringe to reduce wind resistance was finally looking like it would pay off. All three finely tuned athletes were desperate until the end however with The Whitwarta Whippet making up late ground to force the Stewards to view the photo finish. After a malfunction in the post camera the win was awarded to Josh “Slow Mo” Mahoney only to be stripped back and awarded to Andy “The Whitwarta Whippet” Wilson who’s last minute lunge saw him cross the line first in the most highly contested Lochiel Gift we have seen in its…. well rather short history.

In other news, Congratulations to the A1, A2, A3, A4 and the C2’s for Making the 2nd Semi Final at Mallala on Saturday, and the C1’s who finished Third after the minor round and will play Mallala in the 1st Semi Final on Sunday.

The Junior colts will face the arch rival Balaklava on Sunday after finishing the minor round in third position. With some real talented players the Juniors will be looking to throw everything at a chance play off for a Grand Final birth in the Preliminary Final.

With returning players Shane McGuiness, Jack Hatcher, Cameron Pharnam, and Nathan Greenshields the Senior Colts will be heading into their match on Sunday against Mallala with confidence especially given the last time the two sides met, the young Eagles ran out 22 point winners.

The A Grade took their destiny into their own hands on Saturday with a 99 point win over Two Wells ensuring 2nd place and the double chance in front of Balaklava by percentage. The A Grade will give themselves every chance this Saturday against Mallala after hitting their straps at the most important time of year.

Good Luck to all players in the finals! Go you Eagles!!
